Lush's Fresh Farmacy Facial Soap Bar

Lush's Fresh Farmacy Facial Soap Bar

hello lovelies!

I've always loved Lush; from the explosive artworks that are their bath-bombs to versatile and cruelty-free skincare essentials to suite everyday needs. From Lush's extensive collection comes a much loved staple facial soap bar, Fresh Farmacy, and as you may have guessed it's the topic of today's conversation! I actually purchased this months ago and used it only a handful of times before I decided I didn't like it at all. I felt that it wasn't clearing my skin and it wasn't cleaning my face at all. However, I decided to pick it up again and give it another go in the hopes that maybe I was just being too quick to judge.

From lush's website:

Every ingredient is carefully selected for its gentleness on the skin, with chamomile, elderflower, calamine and lavender; this is nature at its kindest. In order to make this soap gentle enough to use on your face as well as your body, we took out some of the soap base and replaced it with beautiful essential oils: chamomile blue oil is soothing on the skin; lavender oil calms the mind; tea tree oil is a mild antiseptic and rose absolute is good for restoring balance to the skin.

Ingredients and their uses

Calamine /Elderflower /Coconut oil/ Lavender oil/ Chamomile blue oil/ Rose absolute / tea tree oil

The ingredients indicate success, with Chamomile calming the skin while rose balances it. Tea tree oil acts as an antiseptic and assists with gently clearing the skin of imperfections. The combination of these ingredients act together to calm, sooth and cleanse the skin gently and efficiently.  The goal of this cleanser is to promote healthy skin through natural, nourishing ingredients. Reading what's actually in it, it's very obvious they have thought a lot about what they're putting in their products. Out of the 19 ingredients, only 6 of them are synthetics. All of said synthetics are safe and are used in many natural cosmetics to help that have a longer shelf-life so that the product stays fresher for longer. Now that we've sorted that out, it's time for the pro's and con's:

Aesthetic, nicely packaged, cruelty-free, natural, vegan, handmade, gentle and good to use on sensitive skin.

Not moisturising enough in my opinion, a bit awkward to use as it is a soap bar, if not kept correctly it could go off or mouldy, takes a slower time to clear skin than some cleansers.

I mentioned this in the cons, but one thing I just can't seem to get over with this product is the slightly drying effect it has on my skin. In saying this is makes my face feel very clean, polished and shiny. It definitely does strip some of the moisture out though. I think I went wrong when I previously tested it as I used it to take my makeup off. This product, in my opinion, should not be used as cleanser to remove makeup. However, when used as a second cleanse, it is really lovely.

The thing I love about this product is what it does for my pores. I noticed that my previous breakouts were very slowly but surely going away, and my pores were airbrushed and had diminished impressively. I used this soap bar for two weeks every day and night, replacing it with my beloved Nourish 3D Kale Cleanse (read more about this one here), to test out whether it was worth the buy. Although the smell kind of gets to me (strangely enough - everyone loves it and it's all natural flower scents - but for some reason it doesn't sit well with me), I have fallen in love with this product the second time around. I would gladly use this cleanser every day in conjunction with a few of my other favourites as my skin absolutely loves it.

overall: 7/10.

Inflammation in my skin has really gone down, and although I can't say the same for scarring and hyperpigmentation, this really is a winner in my eyes if you're looking for a simple product that will make your skin healthy again without all the artificial irritants.

I really hope you guys enjoyed this post and I would love to know your thoughts on Lush Cosmetics. Do you have any favourites or perhaps you have tried this product? Please let me know in the comments below!
