Trying out Boujis Beauty

Testing out Cult Beauty Tools & Products

Before we get started, I want to thank Boujis Beauty for kindly gifting me these products and I'm so excited to be sharing them with you guys. Many months ago I had the opportunity to test the silicone sponge craze for myself, courtesy of Clear Sponge Australia before they got really popular. I was incredibly impressed; I remember my boyfriend rolling his eyes at the amount of times I said "oh my god" when I looked at the finished result in the mirror. It really was, and still is, one of my favourite ways to apply makeup.

The creators behind The Beauty Blade have formed a way for us all to access cult beauty products at an unbeatable price for ourselves all in one convenient place. Gold Collagen Lip Masks, Charcoal Masks, the original Beauty Blades and Clear Sponge are included in this list. With an Instagram to make you drool and packaging so aesthetic you may faint (I almost did), comes greatly hyped products - products that are hyped for a good reason.

the beauty blade - the secret to smooth skin?

($14.95 AU)

The Beauty Blade is a disposable blade used to shave or ‘dermaplane’ the skin on your face. Dermaplaning is a technique that uses a small, straight blade to shave away dead skin cells and vellus hair (that light peach fuzz that covers your face). You can expect to see an instant improvement in skin texture and tone, with long-term effects including increased cell turnover and a reduction in wrinkles, dark spots, congestion and acne scarring.
— From the Boujis Beauty Website

The first thing I'd like to talk about is the Beauty Blade. As stated above, dermaplaning is a technique used to remove the surface layer of the skin with the intent to demolish dead skin cells and dirt that clogs the pores and causes acne. By doing this, the cells renew faster leading to a brighter, clearer complexion. Essentially, you are shaving your face. It's a painless, quick way to healthy skin.

I like to use this once a week, however the second time I used it I went a bit overboard as I was so impressed by my first use. I ended up making my face really red, which is something I definitely don't recommend as I accidentally went over a few of the same areas several times more than you're supposed to. However, when done correctly, I'll almost go as far to say that it is a safer, cheaper and similar alternative to microdermabrasion and other scary salon-type services. For such an affordable price you can expect to see effective results without the intrusive irritants that are in a lot of common beauty products. If you're looking for a way to glow, this is it.

Charcoal Mask

 $16.95 AU

A deep cleansing peel-off mask infused with Rosemary & Activated Charcoal to remove black heads, dead skin and refine pores. Charcoal Mask will keep your skin smooth and soft, helping to reduce breakouts and acne. You will see results after your very first application.

Charcoal is amazing for decongesting the skin. In my experience, congestion is often caused by dead skin cells that become trapped along with oil and dirt caused by pollution, makeup and cosmetics. This particular one adds skin nourishing ingredients Rosemary Extract and Zinc to the list, which intrigued me right away.

For the application, the consistency is very thick. It dries at around the 15 minute mark, but Boujis Beauty recommend you leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes.

The first time, I accidentally left it on for 45 minutes.

In my defence, I was working on The Glow Club and got completely carried away with time. When I remembered, it was a mad dash to the bathroom and a horrified expression in the mirror as I struggled to essentially pull of my skin (not fun, by the way). I ended up having to wash off the remains of the mask that I couldn't get off.

Now that I've got the hang of it, this product is gold to me.  With each application this mask draws out impurities under the skin and brings them to the surface gently so you can safely exfoliate them away. Personally, I love to follow up this mask with the Beauty Blade as I almost never pick at my face unless I have to and I find this sweeps away anything that has risen. I especially love the feel of this product; it's thick, moisturising until it dries thin and hard. I definitely noticed a difference in the little bumps that have plagued my skin for months.

In fact, in three uses I  managed to get rid of a few that previously wouldn't leave me alone and no matter what I did, refused to disappear. That was, until this mask came into my life.

Gold Collagen Lip Mask

An intensive moisturising treatment infused with Gold extract, Collagen, Hyaluronic Acid & Vitamin C that will hydrate, minimise lines, plump & stimulate the lips natural production of Collagen. The perfect mask to counteract the drying effects of matte lipsticks!
— boujis beauty wesbite

I have only ever used a collagen lip mask before and it was from Etude House, so I was really excited to give this a go as it looked especially luxurious. I know a lot of my readers are currently experiencing the glory that is summer. Yet I'm waking up shivering at night, drinking hot tea that burns my mouth but warms me up, and feel as though one of these days I'm going to get frostbite just by stepping out of the house. A little bit dramatic, I know. I could have just said it's winter where I am, but I feel as though I need to express to you how much my lips need some intense hydration.

So did this mask work? It's a pretty simple concept - like a sheet mask for your lips. This particular lip mask is a lot smaller than what I've tried in the past, which means it's a lot easier to use and more importantly, keep on. Not only this but there is a slit between the lips so you can actually breath out of your mouth while it's on. I found that this mask completely smoothed over all lines in my lip (which trust me, were not pretty) and made my lips look supple and smooth. It doesn't make your lips gold but there is a subtle shine to them once you take the mask off. I would 100% repurchase this over and over despite it's not something I usually invest, in as I feel like the collagen aspect of this mask is something to treasure. As we all get older and deal with the effects of ageing and sun damage, this is the perfect thing to stock up on when you feel like your lips need a good pamper.

All in all, I honestly enjoy every single one of these products and will repurchase once I run out of them, which is something I almost never do as I'm constantly trying new things to review. I guess that's the beauty of cult products, though. They're versatile, valuable and never get old.

Before you go, what's your favourite cult beauty product?
